Description:
The National Stadium of Chile is located in the capital city Santiago, on the Mapocho River.Construction of the stadium started in Fefruary 1937 and it was inaugurated on December 3, 1938. The stadium was used for the FIFA 1962 Football World Cup finals, for the opening, the quarter finals, semi final and the final.During the Chilean Coup in 1973, the stadium was used as a Concentration camp and held around 40,000 prisoners.Many were tortured and murdered in the dressing rooms and corridors inside the stadium.(Santiagos)
